Eastern part of the island of El Hierro

Roques de Salmor

Two picturesquely emerging from the sea rock formations visible from Mirador de la Pena are high na 100 m Roque Grande and smaller Roque Chico. In the past, endangered species of birds and the famous giant lizards have been discovered here, which were considered extinct. Currently, the rocks known as Roques de Salmor are one of the most important breeding sites for birds on the island.

They look especially beautiful with Las Puntas.

Issue Virgin of Pena

Equally beautiful views can be admired from the vantage point at the charming stone chapel of Ermit Virgen de la Pena, just a few hundred meters above the viewpoint (when leaving Mirador de la Pena, turn right and go up, the road is marked). If anyone has the opportunity, he should come here 19 October, when the feast of Virgen de la Pena falls. On this day, the statue of the Mother of God in a solemn procession is carried as far as Mocanal. A dancing procession on the way (the procession is attended by dancers dressed in folk costumes) stops in Guarazoca, You mean St. Peter.

Guarazoca

The name of this small agricultural town reminds of Guarazoka – princess, which – as is often the case – she lost her head in love. Like the rest of the villages on El Hierro, this one, too, is perhaps not very charming, however, you can see traditional wine presses and the charming chapel of Ermita del Dulce Nombre de Mana (in the cemetery). If someone likes the neighborhood, can stay for a few days at Casa Rural la Asomada. Good, Local dishes are served at La Pasada bar.

the mocanal

Mocanal in the fertile north is mainly inhabited by shepherds and farmers. The village stretches along the main road, therefore it is difficult to talk about any center in this case – this role could possibly be played by the square near the Church of San Pedro. At the entrance to the village from Valverde, a small stone viewpoint was built, from which, in good weather, you can see La Palma. It's worth a trip from El Mocanal, steep and winding road to Pozo de las Calcosas. The hungry can visit the La Penultima bar or the El Parlamento bar recommended by the inhabitants of the island - in both of them you can try home-made wine from the barrel. The most sophisticated tastes will be satisfied with the restaurant of the charming Hotel Rural Villa de Mocanal. You can also rent farmhouses in the area: La Era Rural House, Casa Dońa Lola oraz Rural House Los Arcos. The buses on the Valverde-La Frontera route stop in El Mocanal.

Well of the Calcosas

Pozo de las Calcosas is one of El Hierro's greatest treasures. Two natural pools hidden from the world in a rocky bay, surrounded by traditional thatched stone houses, is one of the favorite vacation spots of the inhabitants of the island. There, who managed to buy one of the houses in the seaside village, are considered lucky ones Unfortunately, it is a place almost inaccessible to tourists – of course you can bathe and sunbathe here, however, finding accommodation is almost a miracle. All bungalows are privately owned by the inhabitants of the island, who usually move here during holidays and weekends. The only way to get to the village is via a narrow path down a steep cliff. Before going down, it is worth stopping at a small stone vantage point.

Protected

Village just away from Valverde 3 km lies in the center of one of the most important wine regions of the island – The traditional white houses here are surrounded by parra grapevines, which are grown on a volcanic substrate called picón. Charco Manso Bay is the area's biggest attraction, where there are several natural pools with crystal clear water. The Spanish word manso means "calm", and the calm waters of this cove have little in common. In windless, on sunny days it is the perfect place for a swim, however, in windy weather you have to watch out for high and strong waves.

There are two nice ones waiting for tourists in Echedo, rustic houses for rent: Gualisancho oraz Castle House Domingo Pio House. There is also one of the most appreciated restaurants on the island – Grandmother's Fig Tree. Although the chef's specialty is cabrito asado (baked kid), it is always worth ordering peto en salsa verde or lapas a laplancha. There is a bus to Echedo from Valverde.
