San Andres and surroundings

On the height 1500 m n.p.m., the small town of San Andres is located in the middle of Nisadafe, shrouded in the fog of the mess, the highest one on El Hierro. You can find here some interesting Mudejar style houses and Portuguese architecture (This is evidenced by their characteristic guillotine windows and convex tiles in the Arabic style) and Iglesia de San Andres from the 17th century. In the area of ​​San Andres you can rent very nice casas rurales, e.g.. Cecilio and Maria's house, Casa Tesón I and Casa Tesóti II, sanjora house, El Valle House and El Llanito House. The Casa Coyo restaurant is very popular, where you can eat cheap and good home made meals (recommendable chickpeas with pork, chick eon pig). Dwa Inne lokale to Mesón Cristino oraz La Igualdad, where they serve delicious grilled meat. Buses from Valverde go to San Andres.

The Albarrada

A well-marked road leads from San Andres to the village of La Albarrada. Settlement, or rather, her expressions, it is a memento of one of the first forts, that were founded on the island. It's worth coming here, to see the remains of ancient stone houses.

A small town perched on the edge of the El Risco de los Herreńos, On the height 800 m n.p.m. At the end of the village of Mirador de Isora. There is a captivating panorama of the eastern coast of the island from the viewpoint suspended over the bay – Beaches, the emblematic rock formation Roque de la Bonanza and the best hotel El Hierro – National Tourism Parador. A picturesque trail also begins here - in places a narrow and quite steep path leads all the way to the coast – do the beaches. There is a bus to Isora several times a day from Valverde, which also stops at Mirador de Isora. There is a bar in the village, restaurant and casas rurales: Anita's House, Casa Abuela Estebana oraz Casa Elba.

The most beautiful routes: San Andres-Well of the Calcosas

The route from San Andres through the pastures of the interior to the coast allows you to explore the eastern and central parts of the island, which at times resembles humid and misty tropical forests. An additional attraction of this trail is the opportunity to see the sacred tree of the Bimbaczów – Garoe. The route between San Andres and Pozo de las Calcosas is not difficult (on the transition 9 km should be allocated some 3 hours), however, going the other way around can be quite tiring.

Jinama Viewpoint and Izique Viewpoint

Mirador de Jinama is one of the most beautiful viewpoints on the island. From a height 1230 m. n.p.m. offers a stunning panorama of El Golfo. The charming chapel of Ermit Yirgen de la Caridad stands nearby. It is also worth going to the Mirador de Izique a bit to the north, from where you can also see El Golfo perfectly, but from a slightly different perspective.

The Mountains

A little west of Mirador de Izique, the small settlement of Las Montańetas perched on the slopes of the valley. Considered one of the oldest on the island, for a long time it was almost abandoned – as the locals say, "More goats than people lived there". Now the former inhabitants are slowly returning, they are restoring dilapidated houses, which they then rent to tourists who want to relax in peace and close to nature. Interesting suggestions are Casa Rural Espinel and Casa Tomas.

Pena viewpoint

Suspended over a steep slope, Mirador de la Pena is one of the most attractive places on the island. Designed by the famous Lanzarote artist Cesar, Manrique mirador consists of several

viewing terraces and a glass restaurant, from where there is a breathtaking view of the El Golfo valley and the Roques de Salmor. As with other Manrique's projects, there is a lot of greenery here and many references to traditional island architecture.

Entry to the green terraces and the views themselves are free, however, it is worth being tempted by a meal in the mentioned restaurant, because it is considered one of the best on the island. Egg soup (El Hierro egg broth), sweet gofio with cheese and mojos sauces (sweet gofio with cheese and variation of mojos), fried lamb (fried goat in the blacksmith style) or fig flan (fig flan) these are dishes, must try.

The most beautiful routes: Isora-Las Playas viewpoint

The trail starts at Mirador de Isora and is steep (with over 1000 m n.p.m. descends to a height of approx. 200 m n.p.m.) and very narrow in places, however the views of Las Playas bay, which can be seen practically all the time of the trip, reward the effort, which you have to put in the descent. The four-kilometer stretch Mirador de Isora-Las Playas is completed in 2 hours, and you need to book approx 3 hours. Willing people can return along the PR EH route 3 by El Pinar.
