Between the beaches of the north and south, there is a volcanic land shimmering with colors. The coast of central Fuerteventura is nothing like the kilometers of white beaches in the south and north. You can find here rather steep volcanic cliffs, between which there are small coves with black beaches.
caleta de fuste
Just 12 km od Puerto del Rosario i 6 from the airport lies the small resort of Caleta de Fuste, popularly known as Castillo ("castle"), and this is due to the tower standing right next to the beach (unfortunately, the building surrounded by swimming pools is part of one of the hotels). A quiet summer resort by a shallow bay and a golden beach, it is an ideal place for families with small children..
Caleta de Fuste is Fuerteventura's true golf region. Two 18-hole golf courses have been built in the vicinity of the resort: Fuerteventura Golf Club Oraz Golf Club Salinas de Antigua.
Apart from golf, Caleta de Fuste offers above all attractions related to the sea. Deep Blue offers diving courses for beginners and diving trips for experienced diving. You can also sign up for windsurfing lessons at the Fanatic Surf Center and SurfSchool on the main beach. If you prefer to watch the water from a slightly greater distance, can go on a cruise "Catamaran Excursions" or on a mini-submarine "Nautilus".
Salt Museum
A few kilometers south of Caleta de Fuste, in the small fishing town of Las Salinas you can visit the Museo de la Sal (Salt Museum), decorated on the premises of the still operating Salinas del Carmen. During a visit to the facility and a walk, you can follow the entire process of obtaining salt from sea water.
Black Well
There are few places on the coast of Fuereventura like the fishing village of Pozo Negro – no signs of a summer resort, a few white houses and fishing boats pulled out onto a small black beach. There are two restaurants in the settlement: famous for its excellent paella Los Pescadores and Los Caracoles. You can spend the night in the Albergue de Pozo Negro run by the local government.
Great Tarajal
Although it is hard to believe, Gran Tarajal is Fuerteventura's second largest city (ok. 10 thousand. residents) and an important port, from which ships leave loaded with tomatoes and onions grown on the islands. The town functions properly on the margins of mass tourism – kilometer-long volcanic beach loses to endless stretches of golden sand on the nearby peninsula of Jandia. Thanks to this, you can get a bit of a truly Canarian atmosphere - the seaside promenade and the beach are a favorite place for afternoon walks and meetings of residents.
The buses of the line go to Gran Tarajal #1, 10 i 16. There is a small tourist information point right next to the beach. There are practically no beds in the town – You can only stay at the Tamonante guest house, which offers rooms with bathrooms.
The gastronomic offer of Gran Tarajal can only be praised – the restaurants at reasonable prices offer food much better than in the nearby resorts. Virtually in the dark, you can enter any restaurant on the seaside promenade. Even better and cheaper dishes are offered in pubs in the center of the town – La Abuele de Oro is very popular with the locals, The Parada oraz El Charco. Excellent fish dishes are served at Cofradta de Pescadores by the port.
the little beaches
Just 5 km to the north lies the small fishing village of Las Playitas, hidden behind a mighty cliff. A small rock on the black volcanic beach naturally divides the town into the northern part, occupied by a former fishing village with the atmosphere and buildings of a Greek town, and the southern part, with a hotel complex and a golf course. Despite its intensive development, this tourist settlement is much calmer than the resorts on the Jandia peninsula.
A bus from Gran Tarajal goes to Las Playitas several times a day. In the northern part of the town there are some really good restaurants serving inexpensive local cuisine. It is worth visiting La Rampa de Tio Enriąue and Las Playas, located right by the sea, where you can eat excellent fresh fish In the depths of the village good food is served in Yictor and El Poril. Accommodation can be booked at Playitas Grand Resort, which offers apartments Bahia Grande, Cala del Sol hotel and villas with private pool, Villas Playitas. The hotel buildings are located around the Playitas Golf course. The Cat Company windsurfing school is located on the beach.
Entallada lighthouse
A narrow asphalt road leads north from Las Playitas, to the lighthouse on a high cliff above the ocean. Entallada is one of the most beautiful lighthouses, what can be seen on the island – it was built in a traditional style, combining gray stone with a white wall. The vicinity of the lighthouse is one large terrace overlooking the ocean and lonely volcanic mountainous areas.
Tarajalejo
A fishing village with a beautiful black sand and pebble beach slowly turns into a small resort. Currently, the only attraction of Tarajalejo is a visit to El Brasero, where a small aquarium and a horse-riding stable are located.
You can get to the summer resort by bus #1 z Puerto del Rosario.
There are several good and inexpensive restaurants, hotels and apartments in the village, e.g.. Varadero Apartments. El Brasero is a nice campsite.
La Lajita
6 km south of Tarajalejo lies the small resort town of La Lajita. Although a lot of apartments have been built here in recent years, the area around the black volcanic beach still looks like a small fishing village. The biggest attraction of the town, attracting tourists from all over the island, is Oasis Park. Inside, there is a zoo and an interesting botanical garden. The visit is made even more attractive by shows with the participation of seals, parrots, reptiles and birds of prey. Willing people can ride camels for an additional fee.
Bus #1 on the way from Puerto del Rosario to Morro Jable it stops at the entrance to the town, near Oasis Park.
Wall
In a small town on the south-west coast, you can mostly meet surfers, who found excellent conditions for this sport on the surrounding beaches. In years 70. XX w. the town had the ambition to become a new resort, however, it lost out to miles of white beaches on the eastern side of the island (however, it is worth going to those beaches that are underestimated by mass tourism – they are characterized by golden sand, disturbing rock formations and almost no sunbathers).
La Pared cannot be reached by bus. The result of efforts to obtain the status of a resort are houses and apartments (they are difficult to rent, because the town is actually constantly inhabited by German pensioners), six hole golf course and mini golf course, La Pared Golf Academy, and as many as three surfing and windsurfing schools: Waveguru, Rapa Nui Surf School oraz Surf Center. They all run courses for beginners and equipment rentals. You can satisfy your hunger in the Bahta la Pared restaurant, which specializes in fish dishes and paella. The restaurant's customers have at their disposal a swimming pool with slides for children.
From La Pared to Betancuria
Being in Fuerteventura, you must go on a trip along the route connecting La Pared with Betancuria – preferably at sunrise or sunset and it is necessary in this direction, because – as residents say - a trip along the same route, but in the opposite direction, does not make that impression. The gentle volcanic hills and valleys shimmering with all shades of red look really phenomenal.
