Northeast of Tenerife – Anaga Mountains

Hidalgo Point

The village, situated to the west, is relatively modern, a small and rather quiet resort, which is a favorite of German tourists. Even though there are not so many attractions here, how many in larger holiday resorts, and bathing is possible mainly in natural seawater pools, the city has a constant group of loyal admirers. Anyway, all the shortcomings of a technical nature are rewarded with great views of the Anaga mountains on one side and the north coast of Tenerife on the other.

There is a bus to Punta Hidalgo #105 from La Laguna. You can look for accommodation in Oceano. You can also stay at the city campsite. Two great places to try fresh fish are the Cofradia de Pescadores.

Low tide

In years 60. XX w. it was decided, that Bajamar will be a tourist resort. Hotels have been built, restaurants were opened, however, due to the high humidity, little sun and almost no beaches, the plan could not be put into practice. Currently, mainly residents of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna come to the town, who like swimming in pools with sea water. The small black beach of Arenal is a place especially appreciated by surfers.

There are buses to Bajamar from La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife. You can stay overnight in Delfin Bajamar. There are many bars and restaurants in the town, where you can eat tasty and relatively cheap.

Hiking

The Anaga Mountains are the perfect place for hiking. A dozen or so trails of various difficulty levels are marked out in the park. Most of them are routes, which once served the inhabitants of the villages in the mountains. People focused on intensive hiking can stay at Alberque Montes de Anaga,

Bailadero-Almaciga

A very simple and pleasant trail, for which you need to book 1 at. 30 min, virtually anyone can beat, who has comfortable sports shoes. The trail starts just behind the El Balcon de Anaga restaurant in Bailadero and goes almost continuously downhill, so that it's hard to get lost. After approx 20-25 min from the beginning of the trip, the route meets an asphalt road, which you should walk for approx. 200 m. At a sharp left turn, look for a right turning lane. Now it remains to follow the trail straight ahead, and at the level of the house you pass on the left, turn right into the path leading down the valley, where the unpaved road starts leading straight to Almaciga.

Chamoraga-Bailadero

This short and rather easy hike is one of the most beautiful and scenic in the Anaga Massif. You need to spend approx. 2-3 at. The trail starts in front of the church in Chamoraga, which the bus goes to #247 z Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Initially, it runs along an asphalt road, in just a few minutes to change into a field path along the stream.

At the first crossroads, turn right and cross the stream. At the next intersection you have to turn left and climb a rather steep path, then take the steps to the Cabezo del Tejo viewpoint. There is an asphalt road - you need to turn left and after a dozen or so meters, at the signpost "Chinobre", enter the trail. A rather difficult approach awaits here, however, the steep section is traversed in 5 minutes, and then the trail only gently rises and falls.

After a few moments, you can see the finger-like Roque de Anambra rock formation on the right. From now on, you should follow the trail all the time, which will approach the main road twice, and then gently bounce off of it.

Hidalgo-Las Carboneras Point

The nine-kilometer route is planned for approx. 5 at. walking and requires a little more than average physical condition, although almost anyone can go the other way. Initially, you go gently down a wide trail.

Behind the picturesque Roque de dos Hermanos you start zigzagging between cacti and twisted tabaibas bushes up to the Era de Los Amacigos viewpoint, from which the northern coast of the peninsula is beautifully visible. Then you go up the steps carved in the ground to the next vantage point, from where you can see Roque de los Pinos covered with pine trees. A few hundred meters away, between the vines and orchards, you can see the small settlement of Chinamada. From here, the road goes to the distant o 3 km Las Carboneras -a small town, which the bus goes to #075 z Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Las Teresitas beach

Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria have always been in competition. For a long time, the capital of Tenerife was losing in the competition of "the most beautiful city beach”, because the city did not have a beach as such. The situation has changed, when lying down 8 km north of the city the black beach was rebuilt. As a result, today the inhabitants of Santa Cruz de Tenerife can swim and sunbathe, lying under palm trees, on golden sand. Is said to be, that to create this beach, approx. 4 million sandbags! I guess it was worth it, because the golden beach, over which the Anaga Mountains dominate, she is simply delightful.
