Accommodation in the Canary Islands

Accommodation

The accommodation base of the Canary Islands is very well developed. In resorts on the southern coast of Tenerife, Great Canarii, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura may be inhabited by at least half of Europe. Unfortunately, it will be of little use to a tourist traveling on his own – most places are bought in advance by travel agencies from all over the world, and individual booking is not only more difficult but also much more expensive.

Most people come to the Canary Islands as part of organized trips, because that's just the cheapest (often the price of an airline ticket bought on its own is higher than the price of one-week holidays). Some people do not move outside the hotel swimming pool or beach, others treat the hotel as a base (Accommodation in self-catering apartments offers the most freedom in this respect). Tourists looking primarily for a beach of sun and lush social life should decide to stay in Los Cristianos or Playa de las Americas in Tenerife and Maspalomas in Gran Canaria. People looking for a little more peace should consider buying holidays in smaller resorts, e.g.. Puerto Mogan (Gran canaria), Santiago Beach (La Gomera) or Los Gigantes (Tenerife).

Persons, who definitely don't like crowds and resorts, however, they don't have to worry – departure with a travel agency, although by far the cheapest, is not the only solution. Individual tourists can find accommodation in guesthouses and small hotels run by local families, which are easiest inland, large cities and on smaller islands, where mass tourism has not developed. You can also choose to rent casa rural.

Looking for a place to stay, Good to remember, that high season (high season) in the Canary Islands, it covers the period from mid-November to April, Easter time and summer months (VTI-IX). Low season (low season) that is the remaining period.

Couchsurfing

Individual travelers, who want to get to know the islands from a less touristic side, can take advantage of social networks, such as chobywww.couchsurfing.com or www.hospitalityclub.org. Both portals bring together people, who offer accommodation free of charge in their own home or will gladly show them around their city. Spending a few days or even one afternoon with a resident of one of the islands is certainly the best way to get to know it.

Pensions and hostels

Pensiones and hostales are small family-run guesthouses. The difference between them is slight: theoretically, all rooms in a hostal should be with bathrooms, and wpensión bathrooms can be in the corridor.

In fact, it is different, i.e.. and hostels, and pensiones have rooms with and without bathrooms. Prices in such properties usually start from 15 € for a single room without bathroom and not to exceed 35-40 € for a double room with bathroom. For this price, you can end up in a musty room with a wash basin, or in a clean and renovated room, where what 3 days towels are changed. There are few such facilities in the Canary Islands - they are mainly concentrated in the capitals of the islands.

Campsites and hostels

On the islands, it is strictly forbidden to pitch tents outside of designated places, these in turn can be literally counted on the fingers of one hand. Most campsites are run by the local council and use is only possible after obtaining a special permit (At least one week before your planned arrival, please contact the camping office). Some of the camps are in the mountains or within national parks, therefore you can stay on them as much as possible 1-2 wot. More information on campsites can be found in the individual chapters.

Apartments and bungalows

Apartments, usually concentrated around the pool, it is usually a room with a kitchenette and a bathroom (studies) or a bedroom and a living room with an extra bed, kitchenette and bathroom (iapartment). They are marked with keys (from one to three), and their prices fluctuate within limits 30-90 € per day. Aparthoteles are also very popular, that is apartment complexes, where all hotel services are available (board, restaurants, hairdresser etc.).

Booking apartments individually is very difficult, and often even impossible, as they are pre-rented by large tour operators. By La Palmie,
At La Gomera and El Hierro, most private apartments must be booked in person and well in advance.

Hotel

Due to the high popularity of the apartments, which give you much more freedom, hotels in the Canary Islands are in the minority. Four-and five-star luxury facilities with swimming pools and all amenities predominate in the resorts, booked in advance by tour operators, however, an individual reservation of a place in this case is much simpler than an apartment reservation (unfortunately, also much more expensive). Accommodation in hotels on the coast is usually offered in three options: room with breakfast (room with breakfast), media pensión or full board (full board).

paradors

A special type of hotel is the state-owned chain of elegant Parador Nacional de Turismo (www.paradores.es), which is characterized by a privileged location (e.g.. in Tenerife, in the Teide National Park) and beautiful traditional decor. Paradores can be found on all islands except Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The parador in La Gomera, stylized as an aristocratic country estate, is considered the most beautiful, from which you can beautifully see the distant Fr. 30 km of Tenerife with the majestic Mount Teide.

Rural houses and hotels

Rural houses, that is, traditional country houses renovated and equipped with all comforts, is the perfect solution for people looking for peace and an island atmosphere. The houses are fully equipped, some of them even have swimming pools. Casas rurales usually have to be rented at a minimum 7 days, although there are owners, who even rent houses for one night. Reservations can be made through the website of the Canarian Agritourism Association Acantur (www.ecoturismocanarias.com), where you can find detailed descriptions of objects along with | photos. Rental prices vary from island to island, location, standard, season and number of landlords. For example in El Hierro and La Gomera for renting a cottage for 2 people have to pay 30-100 € (the average price is approx. 50 €), and for 4 people 60-100 € (the average price is approx. 70 €). In Tenerife for 2 people – 40-100 € (the average price is approx. 70 €), and for 4 people 70-140 € (the average price is approx. 90 €). Hoteles rurales are hotels in renovated farmhouses and in the countryside.
