The central part of the island of La Palma

The center of the island is green with banana plantations, of which a small town looks like from time to time. Undoubtedly, the greatest attraction of the interior is the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, covering a powerful depression about the law 9 km in diameter and one kilometer in depth.

A cluster of colorful houses, surrounded on all sides by banana plantations, is one of the most charming towns on the island and one of the first, what was created on it. It was on the coast near Tazacorte that Alonso de Lugo landed with his men, who founded the city. Today, you can admire the sixteenth-century tenement houses shimmering with all the colors of the rainbow, built around the central point of Tazacorte – the small Plaza de España. The historic church of San Miguel Arcangel rises in the square, and next to it, a pergola made of colorful tiles overgrown with a multicolored bougainvillea. Tourists visit Puerto de Tazacorte more often than the town, that is, the port and a nice black beach, 3 km north of the town, in the shadow of the mighty cliff. A few hundred meters deep into the Angustias Gorge, at the mouth of which Puerto de Tazacorte crouched, stoi godne uwagi Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows.

There is a small tourist information office on Plaza de España. It is best to look for accommodation and restaurants near the beach. You can stay in Apartamentos Mar y Luz, Apartments Isa czy Apartments Miramar.

Restaurants, which are located along the seaside promenade, are popular places for Sunday lunch and romantic dinners among islanders. It is worth visiting Playamont and Taberna del Puerto.

The catamaran "Fancy II" departs from the port of Tazacorte – on board you can go on an expedition in search of dolphins, around the island's north coast or for a romantic sunset cruise. There are diving clubs on site: Cueva Bonita oraz Diving Club El Caboso Diving Center.

The Plains of Aridane

The second largest city in La Palma could be crossed by an expressway and came to a conclusion, that there is actually nothing interesting in it. Could, but it would be a big mistake, because Llanos de Aridane has a nice and remarkable old town.

The center of the old town of Los Llanos is the Espana Beach, planted with dense Indian laurels, next to which the church of Nuestra Seńora de los Remedios stands, in a colonial style. While walking along the streets surrounding the Plaza de España, it is worth taking a look at the stylish Elias Santos Abreu Plaza, also called Chica Beach. A lot of charm is added to the city by contemporary sculptures and murals visible in various corners - the exact map of their location along with the names of artists is on the Plaza de España. It may be interesting to visit the Museo Arqueológico Benahoarita, where you can learn a lot about the life of the first settlers.

Be sure to visit Plaza de Sotomayor on the LP-1 road, a few hundred meters southwest of the city, also known as Argual. The square has a charm that is difficult to define, known from small towns in the South American province. This is due to the lack of a hardened surface and small, colorful houses covered with bricks, adjacent to elegant estates and plane trees peeking over the fence. The whole of this exotic picture is completed by the Sunday flea market.
There is a good restaurant by the square, The House of Argual.

Step

The town is only located 650 m from the entrance to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. In itself, it's not very interesting, however, in its vicinity it is worth visiting the Palmex Cactus garden, in which it is grown over 700 different types of cacti, oraz Bird Paradise, where endangered birds and plants live. The Museo de Seda Las Hilanderas is also worth a stop, in which silk is made.
There are several excellent places to stay in the vicinity of the town. Stylishly furnished rooms in Pensión La Tietida and La Palma Jardm bungalows surrounded by a beautiful garden look very inviting. A cheaper option is accommodation in Castańo apartments.
There is no shortage of restaurants in the area - the most popular among the inhabitants of El Paso is probably the constantly crowded La Cascada, valued especially for large portions of grilled meat. The family-run Bodegón La Abuela is also a good option.

Caldera de Taburiente National Park

One of the greatest tourist attractions of La Palma is the Caldera de Taburiente National Park.
For many years it was thought, that the mighty depression in the ground is a volcanic caldera, that is, a kind of crater of an extinct volcano. Scientists now say, that powerful depression, having 28 km of circuit, 9 km in diameter at its widest point and 900 m deep is a remnant of a mighty volcanic mountain, which collapsed under its own weight.

To, what can be seen inside the Caldera de Taburiente, it is difficult to describe in words. Writing about fancy rock formations shimmering with many colors, sky-high granite rocks, waterfalls, streams and stretches of pine forest shrouded in fog in no way reflect the true beauty and grandeur of this place, you just have to see.

A good route for people, which have no more than a few hours at their disposal, there is a 3 km hike from La Cumbrecita to Lomo de las Chozas or a bit more demanding, but still a straight line to Pico Bejenado (there and back approx. 3 at). Having at my disposal all day, you can try the spectacular Los Berecitos-Zona de Acampada-Barranco de Angustias route (ok. 27 km), which will take approx. 9 hours. To avoid having to go back on foot to pick up a car left in Los Berecitos, it would be better to leave the vehicle at the mouth of the gorge, and get to the beginning of the trail by a special taxi. You can also go on a spectacular hike along the northern rim of the caldera (tooth. Boys roque).

You can hide in the caldera for several days, which will allow you to overcome all internal routes.

The Stains

7 km further south, In the small village of Las Manchas, the Museo del Vino is worth visiting, in which not only can you find out, how Shakespeare's praised Canary wine was produced, but also try this famous drink (The ticket price includes two tastings), and even buy it.
In the town, you must also see La Glorieta square with an unusual one, very colorful finish.

Port of Naos

Puerto Naos is the second town on La Palma built solely with tourists in mind, attracted here by a nice and quiet black beach planted with coconut trees. Even if someone's not going to spend the night here, it's worth going to Puerto Naos , come for a walk along the nice seaside promenade. A bus goes here several times a day #4 z The Plains.

Beaches

The largest and most occupied beach in this area is, of course, the main beach in Puerto Naos. Looking for peace, it is worth going a bit further south. Driving along the LP-124 road among banana plantations, Look for signs for Playa de las Monjas and Playa Charco Verde. At the end of the road there is a small and supposedly illegal settlement of El Remo.
