Northern part of the island – The gulf

Arenas Blancas Beach

The eyes of those standing on the observation deck in Pozo de la Salud are drawn to a rather unusual light cream stain on the other side of a small bay. To White Sands – the only golden sand on the island. However, one should not succumb to this illusory name – the white sand is covered with tufts of grass, stones and unfortunately trash brought here by the tide waters. Lying is definitely a better place for sunbathing 3 km away, the charming beach of Verodal. There, who, however, decide to sunbathe and swim on Arenas Blancas, they should be very careful with sea currents – as the locals say, one must approach the sea with courage, but also with respect.

Sabinosa

Due to its picturesque location and traditional architecture, Sabinosa is one of the most charming villages of El Hierro. This little town (314 residents) composed of several dozen whites, of flowering houses is the westernmost point in Spain. Walking the streets of Sabinosa, it is worth going to the small white church of Nuestra Seńora de la Consolación. The only place, where you can drink and eat something, to Bar-Restaurant Sabinosa. It is worth visiting the bar not only for delicious homemade food, but also for a glass of homemade white wine, the products that the inhabitants are famous for (as it is with house wine, it is quite strong!).

Mencafete Fountain

In search of peace and contact with nature, it is best to go to the Mencafete spring in the heart of the pristine laurel forest – it is said to be the only place on the island, in which water flows all year round. The easiest way to get to Fuente Mencafete by car is from Sabinosa – from the road leading to La Frontera, turn right at the signpost; you can also choose the old route connecting La Frontera with Valverde. Coming from the latter, pass Mirador de Llania and drive for a few kilometers, take the marked road to the left. The last one 200 meters from the parking lot to the source must be covered on foot. More skilled hikers can go hiking to the spring from Sabinosa.

Pine Hole

Area Recreativa Hoya del Pino in height 950 m n.p.m. is one of the two campsites on the island (the second, Hoya dcl Morcillo, located in the south of the island, in the vicinity of El Pinar). A perfectly prepared base (stone barbecues, tables with benches, sanitary facilities, Potable water, playground) encourages you to spend a pleasant afternoon in nature. You are not allowed to pitch tents in Hoya del Pino.

Cross of the Kings

A wooden cross rising among green pine forests, at the foot of the highest point of the island, it marks half the way from Ermita de Los Reyes to Valverde. This place, from which many hikers begin their ascent of the Malpaso summit. Near the cross, among the pines is Fuente Cruz de los Reyes - a perfectly prepared place for a picnic (stone barbecues, wooden tables). To get to Cruz de Los Reyes from Valverde, one should go to San Andres, then follow the directions for La Frontera. Turn left at Mirador la Llania.
