THE OROTAVA

Communication, orientation and information

To the bus station (c/tel922332702), located approx. 10 a min march west, numerous buses arrive from Puerto de la Cruz (#345, 101,107), Laguny oraz Santa Cruz de Tenerife (#101, 107). To walk to the center, after leaving, turn left and continue straight ahead, gently rising Avenida Obispo Benitez de Lugo, turn right after a few minutes, then left, into the street, which leads directly to the Plaza de la Constitución. On the way, even before entering the square, you pass a very useful tourist information office (c / Calvary 4; tel 92232304, turismo@villadelaorotava.org, www.villadeorotava.com ; pn —pt.8.30— 18.00). Most of the streets of La Orotava are not pedestrianized, therefore visiting the town on foot, you have to watch out for cars.

Accommodation and gastronomy

You can stay in a modest guesthouse on the most beautiful street in the city, Pension Silene (c / Tomós Zerolo 9; tel 922330199) – some of the rooms are completely renovated, but the rest are a bit neglected. Rural Orotava offers much more comfortable conditions (c / Carrera 19; tel 922322793,
fax 922322725, info@saborcanario.net www.saborcanario.net), renting rooms in a 17th-century mansion in the old town – This place adds to the special atmosphere of this place, that each of the rooms is decorated in a different way.

The best (and dearest) the place is Victoria (c / Brother Apolinar 8; tel 922331683, fax 922320519, info@hotelruralvidoria.com, www.hotelruralvictoria.com).

There is no shortage of nice and good restaurants in the town. Fine traditional Canarian cuisine in a beautiful setting can be tasted in Sabor Canario (on the ground floor, Rural Orotava; nd. closed) and at Zona Kiu (c / College 7; tel 922323738) – it houses an elegant restaurant (not expensive), unpretentious, although a designer cafe perfect for morning coffee and a bar, which fills up with party people in the evening and at night. There are several outdoor cafés around the church of Nuestra Seńora de la Concepción. A completely different place is Arepera, a small bar at the bus station, which serves a specialty of Venezuelan cuisine - arepas: corn pancakes with various fillings.
